Impact 100 Southern Indiana was created to give women in our community the unique opportunity to directly fund a transformational project in Southern Indiana. Nonprofit organizations serving Clark, Floyd and Harrison Counties submitted applications for projects that would improve the lives of families and children.
Three finalists were selected to present to Impact 100 members at a dinner on Tuesday, September 26th at The Grand in downtown New Albany. The Center for Women and Families, Rauch, Inc. and St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities explained their innovative proposals to the crowd. Members voted for the project that resonated with them immediately following.
Votes were tallied and at the conclusion of the evening St. Elizabeth’s Culinary Teaching Kitchen was selected to receive the $50,000 grant. The goal of the program is to help disrupt the cycle of poverty by providing low income, homeless, underemployed mothers in our shelters the opportunity to go through a food services career training program. Participants will learn basic food and kitchen skills needed to work in the food service industry and better afford them opportunity to start a career in a field that would allow them to make a living wage. The holistic program will be designed for each individual woman to give her the tools needed to overcome barriers to living her best life. Women would also work with intensive case management and mental health counseling throughout the program. This will be made possible thanks to the Impact 100 Southern Indiana Grant and the Women's Foundation of Southern Indiana.
